A family-owned water feature studio in San Diego.

We build living water — ponds, waterfalls, and rainwater-harvest features — that fits the yard, the climate, and the way you actually want to live outdoors.

Our story

How Symbiotic Gardens got here.

Symbiotic Gardens started with a simple observation: the best backyards in San Diego are the ones that feel alive. Not manicured within an inch of their life, not templated from a catalog — just alive. A little wildness. Real plants. Water that moves.

We built our first ponds by hand for family and friends. Word spread. Neighbors asked. Then their neighbors. Over the years the projects got bigger and the systems got smarter, but the philosophy hasn't moved: every water feature we build is designed to sit inside a healthy ecosystem, use as little energy and water as it honestly can, and look like it belongs to the yard.

Today we design and build across San Diego County — from La Jolla to Rancho Santa Fe to Chula Vista — and we still care about the same things. The first walk-through, the sound of the waterfall on day one, and a call from the homeowner three years later saying the frogs finally showed up.

What we believe

Principles that shape every project.

Ecosystem first

A pond that filters itself is one you can live with. We design the biology first and the aesthetics on top of it.

Custom, not catalog

No two yards are the same, so no two features are the same. Every project is designed for the site in front of us.

Water-wise by default

Rainwater harvest, drip-integrated planting, evaporation-conscious sizing. Beautiful and appropriate for our climate.

Firm estimates, honest timelines

A written line-item estimate, a build window you can plan around, and text updates through the project.

Craft that shows

Rock work you'd notice on a hike. Rated pumps sized right. Liner seams protected from UV. Details that hold up.

Handover, not walkaway

We finish every project with a walkthrough and a written seasonal care guide. You know what to touch, and what not to.

Credentials

The boring but important stuff.

  • Licensed contractor in California
  • Fully insured — liability and workers' comp
  • Family owned and operated
  • Based in San Diego, working countywide
  • Local sourcing for stone, plants, and materials
  • Permit and inspection coordination handled in-house
  • One-year workmanship warranty on every build
  • Ongoing maintenance available on request

What we're not.

We're not a national pool company. We don't sell kits. We don't stack rocks like a wedding cake and call it a waterfall. And we don't quote a project without seeing the site.

If you want a firm number over the phone before we visit, we're probably not the right fit. If you want the water feature that quietly becomes the reason your family spends more time outside, we probably are.
